Suspect on the run after three police officers shot dead in France

Three police officers have been shot dead and a fourth wounded in central France.

The officers were said to have been responding to a report of domestic violence at a house in Puy-de-Dome when the attacker first began shooting at them, before he set fire to the building.

The suspect fled the scene and is now on the run.

Town mayor Francois Chautard said special forces were on the scene and the incident was still under way but a woman who had been inside the house is said to be safe.

The French Interior Ministry confirmed the deaths of the three officers – one of whom was aged 21.

Puy-de-Dome is in the central Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, about 115 miles west of Lyon.
