An explosion has hit a large market in the capital of Armenia, with reports saying that people are trapped under the rubble.

The blast in Yerevan reportedly set off a large fire.

It occurred in a building at the Surmalu market, where fireworks were sold, according to the Interfax news agency, which cited the country’s emergency services.

The Armenian emergency service ministry said at least one person was killed and 20 injured.

Russia’s state news agency Tass cited the city’s mayor as saying an unspecified number of people were trapped in rubble.
