Millions of tourists flock to the South Aegean in Greece

Millions of tourists flock to the South Aegean in GreecePassing through the five international airports of the South Aegean for the month of July

Over a million arrivals were recorded passing through the five international airports of the South Aegean for the month of July according to the South Aegean Tourism Initiative (SATI), reflecting the significant demand of the Dodecanese and Cyclades islands by foreign travelers, greekcitytimes.com reports.

According to SATI, the more than one million international arrivals in the Dodecanese and Cyclades islands came from an estimated 8,000 international flights.

The main markets of origin for the arrivals

The Germans, with the Poles coming in second place, continue to be the two leading foreign tourists arriving in Rhodes, with the Danes following in third place, marking a comeback.  Meanwhile, in Kos, the Dutch come in second place after the Germans with the Poles in third place in terms of arrivals at the Ippokrates International airport.

The Italians and the French are leading arrival numbers for  Mykonos and Santorini. Meanwhile, for Mykonos, Switzerland emerges as an important market, the visitors of which are slightly more than the Germans and the British, while German and Polish tourist arrivals come in third and fourth place respectively through Santorini airport.

Recent decisions on EU travel restrictions appear to have affected the ranking of British arrivals which, while in previous years was in the 1st or 2nd place of air traffic at least for the airports of Diagoras and Hippocrates, this year saw them fall to 8th and 7th place respectively.

The above data does not consider passengers’ movement through the international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” with domestic flights, but also passengers who travel through the ferry network.
